ABOUT SHANTI DEVI

Shanti Devi, a wife and proud mother of 3 children, first started practising yoga in 1997. From the first time she experienced the peace in her first Savasana, she was inextricably hooked on yoga. An illness in 2008 prompted her to go deeper into her yoga practise and commit to making it her life's purpose.

An E-RYT 500 (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, 500 hours) YACEP, with the global Yoga Alliance, Shanti Devi has over 1,000 hours of combined yoga training in various disciplines under her beloved yoga masters: Vinyasa flow, Yin and Yang Yoga, Functional Yoga Anatomy, Pre and Postnatal yoga, Sivananda Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Yoga Anatomy, Chakras & Meridians.

Always on the journey of growth and learning, Shanti Devi has trained in subtle energy healing modalities of Reiki & Crystal Healing, attaining the level of Reiki Grand Master. Training and daily practise in Yoga (Vedantic) Meditation, Kriya Yoga meditation and Tibetan Buddhist meditation and philosophy are the mindful practices that ground and give strength to her yoga practise. “Metaphysician” is an apt description of what she does, combining all the different holistic & energetic modalities she has honed over the years and adding to it Full Moon singing bowl therapy studying with Nepalese Singing Bowl Master Santa Ratna Shakya, Divination via Astrology, Feng Shui, Tarot & oracle readings, Bone Casting & Spell casting, to help and guide fellow beings to move towards a better life.

Shanti Devi's yoga classes are fun, challenging and never boring--she is known for her creative, flowing, unique sequences (think Super Hero yoga poses that you have never done before!) and storytelling that brings ancient Hindu deities' legends to life. Characterised by constant variation & creative sequencing, her classes are an expression of her care & commitment to her students. Her teaching is always informed by her training in functional yoga anatomy focusing on the unique variations in every person's body, & working with these characteristics; she focuses on the practical functionality and subtle energetic flow (via chakras & meridians) of the pose, and not simply on the aesthetic aspects of the asana. It's not simply about how the pose looks, but more importantly, on working with your unique body structure to make the pose work for you; yoga with Shanti Devi is about how the pose feels in your body, mind and spirit. Making it into "YOUR yoga" is emphasised and learning to accept where you are right now in your yoga practise is a central tenet of practising with Shanti Devi. She is inspired by what her Sensei Paul Grilley has taught her in his trainings: " A Teacher’s abiding responsibility is to become unnecessary to a student’s further progress." ~ Charles Boklage
